PROVERBS SUMMER BIBLE STUDY

Chapters 15-18 - The couplets continue with life lessons

It may seem as if these verses are being redundant and reputative. And, yes, some are actually repeated. After a bit of digging into the history of this myself to understand why this is so, it seems as if this style of writing in ancient middle eastern time was poetic and if something was written more than once it was to give emphasis to it - basically considered to be noted as important.

Throughout the Bible you will see many verses that seem almost identical, so maybe we should pay closer attention to those?

Which words or verses stood out to you this week?

Here are some we discussed:

Proverbs 16:9 In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

(It sounded similar to Provers 3:5-6 which many of us knew by heart.)

Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life. (We got a laugh out of this one. So those with gray hair we thought must be honored. That would include me- ha!) So we all want to grow old and have gray hair now.

Proverbs 18:8 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. (We discussed how our words have power and we must choose them wisely. When we talk about others we should always be building them up).

What were your thoughts?

***This week read Chapters 19-22
