Let the Lord Do the Heavy Lifting

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

If there’s one thing the Lord keeps whispering to me lately, it’s this: “I will fight for you.”

And honestly? I need that reminder daily. Because somehow, somewhere, I got it stuck in

my mind that I am supposed to be the strong one. That I need to muster up all the grit,

guts, and gumption to tackle every battle I face.

Tell me why, then, I’m out here acting like a spiritual CrossFit athlete, lifting emotional

barbells I was never meant to pick up? Meanwhile the Lord is like, “Daughter… I said I will

fight for you.” (Exodus 14:14)

But if you’re anything like me, the moment a new challenge pops up—kids acting wild, finances tight, relationships stretching you thin, fear creeping in at 2 a.m.—your inner “fix-it

girl” wants to clock in for another shift. We love a good plan. A list. A strategy. But sometimes, we forget the most important part: The battle belongs to the Lord (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Now before you picture God telling you to sit on the sidelines in a lawn chair sipping sweet tea—no. That’s not partnering; that’s spiritual retirement. God does ask us to show up, to obey, to take steps of faith. But He never asks us to carry the weight of the battle.

Think about the Israelites at the Red Sea. They were panicking, convinced they were about to die. And Moses basically says, “Shhh. God’s got this.” (My paraphrase, of course.) God didn’t tell them to build boats, swim for it, or fight Pharaoh’s army. He simply asked them to take a step and watch Him move.

Sometimes obedience looks like that—taking a step and watching God do what only He can do. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is unclench your jaw, breathe, and stop trying to move mountains Jesus never asked you to push.

And listen… I have tried to push a few mountains. I’ve also tried to drag them, negotiate with them, and bargain with them. None of that works. Ten out of ten would not recommend.

But every time—every single time—I hand the battle back to the Lord, something shifts. Not always immediately, not always the way I expected, but always in a way that reminds me He sees me, He’s for me, and He is actually really good at being God. Sister, whatever you’re facing today—fear, insecurity, a decision that feels bigger than your courage, a “what if” screaming louder than your faith—hear this:

You do not fight alone.

You were never meant to.

Your job? Show up. Obey. Trust.

His job? The heavy lifting.

And let’s be honest… He’s way stronger anyway.

So today, unclench those fists, let your shoulders drop, and whisper it out loud if you need to: “Lord, the battle is Yours. I trust You to fight for me.”

And then take your next faithful step—knowing He’s already working, already moving, already winning on your behalf.
